Thank you, doctor!” We always hear people utter these three words after they have been treated successfully. But ever heard anyone say the words “thank you, nurse”? We seldom appreciate the work done by a nurse in a hospital or a clinic. Yet, they are equally hardworking and has as much contribution to healthcare. A doctor won’t be able to operate without a nurse. Once an operation has been completed, a doctor immediately leaves, but a nurse will stick by you until you are discharged from the hospital. From weight loss surgery to hernia surgery, every patient needs an equal amount of care post-surgery. This is why nurses are very important and on this 12th May we are celebrating World Nurses Day. This day couldn’t have come at a better time when all the doctors and nurses are fighting day and night against the COVID-19 pandemic. We are seeing and hearing news of them every day about how much they are working hard by putting their life at risk. So many doctors and nurses themselves have become infected due to this.

Yet, we keep hearing all the time, when someone wants to join the medical field, their first choice is to become a doctor. We rarely ever hear anyone say that he or she wants to become a nurse. But nurses play a big part in keeping a community healthy. You might think a nurse is only suitable in working in a hospital, staying beside a doctor in the operating room during that hernia surgery. But, the truth is, a nurse can work anywhere as long as the job entails taking care of someone. They play a major role in educating people about healthcare. Whether it’s through campaigns or one-on-one discussion with a patient, a nurse’s primary job is to promote wellness strategies, before they are even required to visit a hospital. This is what all the nurses are trying to do during this pandemic and trying to prevent it from further spreading. We may not appreciate them every day like we appreciate doctors, but maybe we can change that. On this World Nurse Day, let us all take a moment to salute all the nurses in the world who works as much as hard as the doctors day and night. We would also like to thank all those nurses who are risking their lives in this pandemic to take care of all the COVID patients. You are truly God’s helpers!!
